Where is wireless (WiFi) available and how can I connect to it?

Resolution

OIT has wireless access available to any current SU account holder. Most major buildings on campus have wireless coverage.

Wireless is also available to on-campus residents in Chardin Hall. Wireless is not available to rooms in the other residential halls at this time except in the lobbies.

Connecting to wireless at SU is as easy as connecting to any public WiFi spot. There are no special security settings or encryption. The SSID should be broadcast as SU_Wireless when scanning for available networks.  All major WiFi standards are supported including 802.11a, b, and g.

Once connected open a web browser and when you attempt to access any web site, you will automatically be directed to the login page. Enter your SU user name and password. Once you log in, you can then continue to the web page you were attempting to access. You should only need to log on with your SU user name and password once every 24 hours.

Because data sent over with Wifi is not encrypted, we urge caution sending any non encrypted confidential information. However, most SU web sites such as MySU, SU Online, or Outlook Web Access use SSL which is encrypted, even over wireless and are secure.
