How do I report a printer problem?

Reporting a Printer Problem

When reporting a printer problem, including the following pieces of information in your initial email can speed up the troubleshooting process:

1) The printer name.  If this is a networked printer, the printer name should be something like \\oitps#\prt###\.  If the printer is added to your computer, you can find this by viewing your printers.  This can be found by clicking the Start Menu and then Printers and Faxes (alternatively, Start Menu, then Settings, and then Printers and Faxes).

2) The type of printer.  This is the model number and printer manufacturer.  Most printers on campus are HP Printers.  An example of a printer name is an HP Laserjet 4250N.

3) The location of the printer.  This is just the building and room number.  Alternatively, the location of the person reporting the error is sufficient.

4) A brief description of the problem.  Usual requests are: printer jams, fuser errors, or a stuck print queue.

The quickest way to report your printer problem is to email the above information to helpdesk@seattleu.edu and then call x5571 to let us know of the issue.  If you choose to call before emailing the help desk, please have this information available.
