An International student may receive an error when attempting to reset their password using the online password reset form. The password reset form ("Forgot password") found on owa.seattleu.edu, suonline.seattleu.edu, pwreset.seattleu.edu, my.seattleu.edu and other SU web sites will require the last four digits of the student’s Social Security Number (SSN) or SEVIS number.
International students are issued a SEVIS number which is found on an "INS i-20" form. Students who do not have a SEVIS number on file may receive an error when using the password reset page.
There are two cases where students will receive their SEVIS number: For International students coming to school in the USA for the first time at Seattle University, the SU Admissions office will create an i-20 form with a SEVIS number. At that time, that Admissions office will input the SEVIS number which will allow passwords to be reset using the password reset form. Students who are coming to SU and who are not transferring from another American/USA university should contact the Admissions office or the International Student Center to inquire if they have been issued an i-20 form from SU.
The other case is where international students will be transfer students from another American/USA university to SU. That university has their i-20 with the SEVIS number. When a student completes their enrollment at the other US university, they must request that the other university send their SEVIS/i-20 information to SU. The SU admissions office has an "International Student School Transfer Eligibility Form" which the student must complete at then send to the previous university. Once the previous university releases SEVIS information to SU, the International Student Center can enter that number. If the student has a SEVIS number and it has not been entered into the system, you should contact the International Student Center to request that it be added to the system so the password can be reset over the web.
There is also another type of visa, called an H-4. Students with an H-4 visa will not receive a SEVIS number and will have to set up their password in person at the Help Desk with a photo ID.
If the Admissions office or International Student Center verifies you have a SEVIS number on file and you are stil unable to use the password reset form and you are currently enrolled with no restrictions or holds on your registration, please contact the Help Desk to investigate the problem. Please contact the Admissions office or the International Center first before contacting the Help Desk.
