We have an internal site (http://mypc) that will show you your computer's name and IP address.

IP Addresses can change on a daily basis. It is best to provide your computer name when contacting the OIT Help Desk unless an IP address is specifically requested.

If the webpage is unable to determine your computer name then you will need to use the following instructions.

Windows Instructions

On the Windows Desktop, right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties"

In the System Properties window, select the "Computer Name" tab

Take note of the full computer name

Macintosh Instructions

There are two ways to find the computer name for your Macintosh computer:

Method #1

On the login screen, the computer name is listed right below the "Mac OS X" apple logo

Method #2

Click on the blue Apple menu and select "System Preferences"

In the System Preferences window, under the "Internet & Network" section, select "Sharing"

Take note of the computer name

Temporarily Hiding Content in Ektron

Abstract:
Hiding Content in Ektron

Occationally web content must be hidden from users for a limited time without deleting the content. In order to accomplish this, two things must be done:

Removing the Page from Navigation

The content administrator must remove the page from all navigation elements that link to it. In most cases, site navigation is stored in a single ektron menu item and it is adequate to remove the item from this.

For more help with this, see Q10469 - HOWTO: Removing a Content Item from a Menu, below.

Removing the Page from Search Results

If a user searches for content that is stored in the content item, it may be returned in the search results. To avoid this, we must make the item not searchable:

Log into the Ektron workarea at http://www.seattleu.edu/login

Navigate to the content item in the workarea

Click on the title of the content to view the item

NOTE: It is important that you click on the title of the item rather than selecting View from the drop down menu

Select Edit Properties from the icons above the content

NOTE: The button is the 10th from the left

Uncheck Content Searchable

Click on the Save icon

Removing a Content Item from a Menu

Abstract:
View the Menu in the Ektron Workarea

Log into the Ektron workarea at http://www.seattleu.edu/login.

Navigate to the folder containing your menu in the Ektron Workarea.

Generally menus are located in the root folder of your site. Thus, if you want to manage the menu for Academic Advising, you will need to navigate to Folders > AcademicAdvising.

Mouse over View on the top of the right pane and select Menu – this will bring up the menu listing

Click on the title of menu that you want to update

In most cases, only one menu will be present. When multiple menus are available, the site menu usually contains "Main Menu" in the title.

Removing the Content item

Navigate the folder tree to view the content item to be removed

If you are unsure about where the content item is, you can open all folders and scan the list of content for the correct item. Typically the menu item will be the same as the title of the content item to remove.

Move your mouse over the title of the item to remove and a pop up menu will become available.

NOTE: You do not need to click.

Select "Delete" from the popup menu

It's important to keep in mind that deleting a content item from a menu will not result in the content item being deleted, simply its removal from the menu being managed.

Click on the Back arrow in the right panel to return to the list of menu items

Once you click the Delete command in the menu, the item will no longer show up on the web site, but it is best practice to return to the list of menu items just to ensure that the workarea has finished

Folders Empty in the Workarea

Abstract:
Problem:

The user logs into the Ektron Workarea and, after clicking on Content on the bottom left, doesn't see any folders or content

Cause

Most likely the user has not been granted access to manage sites in the system. The password reset form ("Forgot password") found on owa.seattleu.edu, suonline.seattleu.edu, pwreset.seattleu.edu, my.seattleu.edu and other SU web sites will require the last four digits of the student’s Social Security Number (SSN) or SEVIS number.

International students are issued a SEVIS number which is found on an "INS i-20" form. Students who do not have a SEVIS number on file may receive an error when using the password reset page.

There are two cases where students will receive their SEVIS number: For International students coming to school in the USA for the first time at Seattle University, the SU Admissions office will create an i-20 form with a SEVIS number. At that time, that Admissions office will input the SEVIS number which will allow passwords to be reset using the password reset form. Students who are coming to SU and who are not transferring from another American/USA university should contact the Admissions office or the International Student Center to inquire if they have been issued an i-20 form from SU.

The other case is where international students will be transfer students from another American/USA university to SU. That university has their i-20 with the SEVIS number. When a student completes their enrollment at the other US university, they must request that the other university send their SEVIS/i-20 information to SU. If this is a networked printer, the printer name should be something like \\oitps#\prt###\. If the printer is added to your computer, you can find this by viewing your printers. This can be found by clicking the Start Menu and then Printers and Faxes (alternatively, Start Menu, then Settings, and then Printers and Faxes).

2) The type of printer. This is the model number and printer manufacturer. Most printers on campus are HP Printers. An example of a printer name is an HP Laserjet 4250N.

3) The location of the printer. This is just the building and room number. Alternatively, the location of the person reporting the error is sufficient.

4) A brief description of the problem. Usual requests are: printer jams, fuser errors, or a stuck print queue.

The quickest way to report your printer problem is to email the above information to helpdesk@seattleu.edu and then call x5571 to let us know of the issue. If you choose to call before emailing the help desk, please have this information available.

What is the difference between a Public Folder and a Listserv?

Abstract:
Listservs have an email address. Listservs are distribution lists that are stored on our network. When you email a distribution list, everyone in the list receives a copy of the email. Attachments use up a lot of space, especially anything with photos or graphics.

If you use Outlook 2003, you may want to consider creating a personal storage folder on your computer.

Creating sub folders are handy for organizing things, but they still count against your total usage so moving messages to other folders will not free up space.

Stop by the Help Desk if you'd like an itemized view of your mailbox usage and additional tips.

.

PowerPoint 2007 - Training Manual

Abstract: The attached guide is meant to help you navigate the changes in PowerPoint 2007.
